Grant Description

The CoW DAO Governance Analytics Dashboard aims to improve transparency and accessibility of governance metrics by consolidating key data into a user-friendly platform. This dashboard will provide comprehensive insights into voting patterns, proposal outcomes, delegation metrics, delegate profiles, and overall participation trends. By aligning with the specific requirements outlined in the recent RFP, our solution will enable the CoW DAO community to make informed decisions, identify areas for improvement, and develop effective engagement strategies.

Primary Goals:

  1. Enhance Transparency and Accessibility:

    • Consolidate key governance metrics into a single, easy-to-navigate dashboard.
    • Provide clear visualizations and summaries of governance activities.

  1. Flexibility in the Use of Data:

    • Easy Data Access: Our custom dashboard allows users to access voting and proposal data effortlessly, providing options for API integration and CSV downloads.
    • Community Compatibility: Tailored to meet the specific needs of the CoW DAO community, ensuring data is presented in the most useful and accessible way.

  2. Enable Integration of Additional Data Sources:

    • Social Media Integration:

      • Mapping Addresses to Identities: By integrating social media verification, we can associate wallet addresses with user-provided identities.
      • Enhanced Delegate Profiles: Display social media data to provide more context about delegates, improving trust and engagement.

    • Scalable Architecture for Forum Activity Data: Although integrating forum data analytics is not part of our current scope, our dashboard is architected to easily accommodate this feature in the future. This ensures readiness when CoW DAO decides to incorporate forum data into delegate evaluations or future delegation programs.

  3. Enable Insights Generation from community:

    • Custom Reporting Capabilities: Our dashboard will facilitates the generation of insights and reports, enabling active delegates and community members to monitor governance data and generate reports effectively without additional individual cost like Dune Credits.

  1. Participation Metrics:

    • Number of unique voting addresses per proposal.
    • Participation over time (visualized with charts showing trends).
    • Percentage of delegated voting power actively participating in governance per proposal.
    • Percentage of active delegates per proposal.

  2. Proposal Metrics:

    • Summary of total, active, succeeded, and failed proposals.
    • Overview of CIPs over time, including title and date.
    • Outcome & quorum details.
    • Breakdown of For, Against, & Abstained votes.
    • Filter system for categorizing proposals.

  3. Voting Power Distribution:

    • Voting power distribution among token holders.
    • Voting power distribution over time.
    • Analysis including and excluding delegations.

  4. Delegate & Delegation Metrics:

    • Comprehensive list of active, inactive, and ghost delegates with definitions.
    • Number of delegators per delegate.
    • Percentage of delegated voting power actively participating in governance per proposal.
    • Percentage of active delegates per proposal.
    • Delegate Tags:
      • Tag delegates with more than 17.5 million COW in voting power.
      • Tag delegates with their own COW holdings exceeding 10,000 COW.
    • Delegate Profile Page:
      • Include “about” and “statement” from Snapshot profiles.
      • Historical changes in delegations over time.
      • Ability to see the voting behavior of delegates on specific proposals.
      • Allow delegators to input their address to view current delegations and percentages.
    • Social Media Integration:
      • Allow verified social media links associated with delegates.
      • Enhance profiles with additional context and communication channels.

Methodology

  • Technical Approach:

    • Front-End Development:

      • Build a user-friendly interface that displays all the required metrics.
      • The front-end will be open-sourced and designed to integrate with any data source through APIs.

    • Data Accessibility:

      • Provide options for API access and CSV downloads, enabling users to utilize the data according to their needs.

    • Metric Calculations:

      • Share metric calculations method through Gitbook for transparency and community understanding.

    • Data Integration:

      • Ensure that our data pipeline is flexible and can connect to various data sources as the CoW DAO evolves.

    • Social Media Data:

      • Integrate social media verification to map addresses to individuals where users consent.

    • Forum Activity Data (Future Integration):

      • While not part of the initial scope, the dashboard’s architecture will allow for the addition of forum activity data in the future.
      • This approach ensures readiness when CoW DAO decides to incorporate forum data into delegate evaluations or other governance aspects.

  • Open Source:

    • The front-end code will be open-sourced under an MIT license.
    • Provide documentation for developers to contribute and improve visualizations.
    • The open-source design allows for integration with any data source via API, ensuring long-term adaptability.

  • User Experience:
