RFP: CoW Swap UI Translation & Localization

Requests for proposals are not intended to be prescriptive or exhaustive. The community is encouraged to expand on the ideas here, and the final scope may change based on what we receive. All applications follow the standard Grants DAO process. This request should not be interpreted as an offer.

Summary

CoW DAO seeks native-speaker translators to overhaul, ship, and maintain high-quality localizations of the CoW Swap UI. Applications are open to all, with experience, samples, and pricing collected before any selection. Phase 1 covers Spanish, Portuguese (BR), Russian, and French. Selected contributors are funded via per-language grants and work in Crowdin, with a single named owner per language. Best value wins, not lowest cost.

A previous translation effort was funded, but the translations remain behind a feature flag because three things were missing: QA, defined maintenance ownership, and sufficient language coverage to justify release. This RFP closes those gaps alongside the translation work.

Scope

  • Languages (Phase 1): Spanish, Portuguese (BR), Russian, and French.

  • Volume: ~8800 words across ~1500 strings per language.

  • Tool: all translations happen in Crowdin via a private invite link sent to each contributor.

  • Review: the reviewers approve every language before it merges into production.

  • Deliverable: a reviewed translation in production, plus a commitment to maintain.

In scope: full translation or overhaul of all UI strings per language, a mandatory sample task during selection, and an ongoing maintenance commitment.

Out of scope: docs, long-form content outside the app UI, and marketing copy.

Each language is scoped and funded independently; the DAO may select any subset based on the applications received.

Selection Criteria

  • Sample quality (primary): the native-speaker reviewer for that language.

  • Relevant experience and references (high): Grants Council.

  • Maintenance commitment (high): Grants Council.

  • Price (medium): Grants Council.

Reviews are done internally by the team. Where the team has no native speaker for a language, that language needs a designated reviewer, either a community native speaker or a small reviewing grant. The Council scores the language-agnostic criteria. Lining up a reviewer for each non-English language is the open item to settle before launch.

Workflow

Once selected, work flows through four steps:

  1. Translate (contributor translates all strings in Crowdin)

  2. Review (CoW DAO team / native-speaker reviewer approves)

  3. PR (approved strings opened as a pull request)

  4. Deploy (merged to production).

Each language then has a single named owner responsible for Crowdin updates and review sign-off, monthly or per product release.

Grant Structure

One translation grant per language covers the full ~8,800-word translation and maintenance. Final amounts are set by the open call. Review is a smaller separate grant or handled internally. Payment is milestone-based in stablecoins (USDC, DAI, or USDS); contributors work via a private Crowdin invite.

Timeline

  • 2026-07-01: RFP published, applications open

  • 2026-07-15: Application window closes

  • 2026-07-20: Contributor pre-selection; sample tasks sent

  • 2026-07-25: Contributor selection confirmed

  • 2026-08-15: Translation work completed in Crowdin, review period starts

  • 2026-08-25: Review period ends

  • 2026-09-01: Frontend integration and deployment

  • 2026-09-05: Translations live in production

Selection Process

Selection is run jointly by Core Team Marketing and the Grants Council. The Steward (Grants Council) handles coordination, milestone tracking, and payment; the Reviewer (a native speaker of the target language) scores the sample task and signs off on translation quality before deployment. The committee may extend the window, request clarifications, select none of the applicants, or negotiate scope and budget per language.

Subject: Application for CoW Swap Localization (Greek - Future Phase Proposal)

Hi Team,

I saw the announcement regarding the UI localization RFP. While I note that Greek is not currently in Phase 1, I am submitting my interest for when you are ready to expand into this market.

  • CoW Swap Familiarity: I have been a user since day one and actively promote CoW Swap within communities like EthFinance (Reddit) and EVMavericks.

  • Crypto/DeFi Expertise: I have been in the space for nearly a decade and have a very good understanding of the specific technical terminology.

  • Translation Studies: I am currently going through my degree in Translation Studies, focusing on the English to Greek language pair.

  • Track Record: I was the first person to (voluntarily) translate the official Ethereum Foundation website into Greek (2018–2019) and I still have the relevant POAP that was given to me then by the EF! I am also a member of the Ethereum Greece community and have volunteered to continue my previous translation of the official website of the Ethereum Foundation into the Greek language.

  • Product Context: I have previously collaborated on CoW Swap UI/UX sessions with Mindy (Silver Queen) regarding Limit Orders, and Bridging & Swapping, so I am already familiar with the CoW Swap product architecture.

Pricing: USD 900 for the full ~8,800-word localization set.

Availability: I am fully available to begin as soon as you decide you are ready to expand into the Greek language. I can commit to bi-weekly maintenance updates to ensure the Greek UI remains perfectly in sync with the main English build.

I am applying to be a DeFi-native Spanish localization owner for CoW Swap UI/UX.

I can localize the Spanish UI with the clarity, brevity, and technical precision required for a real user-facing DeFi trading product.

Pricing

1,500 USDC total for the full Spanish localization scope.

This includes the full Spanish UI translation / overhaul, terminology consistency, Crowdin work, reviewer feedback, production-readiness support, and ongoing maintenance ownership.

I’m applying to be part of the team as a DeFi-native Portuguese translator for CoW Swap.

I first became involved in crypto over ten years ago, when I began building a diversified portfolio and exploring the emerging world of DeFi. Since then, I’ve steadily deepened my involvement: managing a portfolio, advising people on how to safely engage with wallets and protocols, and staying close to the discussions that shape Defi future. It has been a long-term commitment, not a passing interest.

I have been a long term user and advocate of CoW-Swap due to the efficiency and safety it provides. I understand all the concepts: swaps, intents, MEV protection, approvals, slippage, balances, limit orders, quotes, failed transactions, wallet states, routing, settlement, bridging, and execution flows.

Project Scope - Translation of approximately 8,800 UI words across ~1,500 strings, Platform - Crowdin, initial project followed by additional releases on an ongoing basis.

Pricing - 1,150 USDC

Availability - I can complete the translation in the proposed timeline and future releases monthly or per product available depending on the volume.

My name is Valeria, I am from Venezuela and a native Spanish speaker, with fluent English proficiency. I would like to apply for the Spanish translation and maintenance of the CoW Swap interface.

I have experience translating full products into Spanish, always ensuring a clear, natural, and consistent user experience. A relevant example is my work with Cambria, where I contributed to the complete localization of the product, maintaining a clean and highly understandable interface for Spanish-speaking users.

Additionally, I am an economist with over 5 years of experience in the crypto ecosystem. I have used CoW Swap multiple times, which makes me highly familiar with its functionality, terminology, and user flow. I believe this combination of technical knowledge and hands-on experience allows me to deliver accurate, coherent translations aligned with the product’s intent.

Pricing:

I offer the full translation of approximately 8,800 words for 748 USDC, with flexibility to scale for future updates and ongoing Spanish language maintenance.

Availability:

Immediate. I am ready to start as soon as I receive confirmation and can maintain clear and consistent communication throughout the process.

I am a native Brazilian Portuguese journalist, editor, and translator with more than 30 years of experience in financial markets, institutional investments, pension systems, regulation, and long-term savings.

My background combines strong editorial judgment, subject-matter expertise, and an advanced command of English. I have formal academic training in the field and extensive experience adapting complex international content for Brazilian audiences while preserving technical accuracy, consistency, and a natural journalistic style.

I am also comfortable working with terminology related to cryptocurrency, blockchain, digital assets, DeFi, and Web3. My experience in financial regulation and institutional investments allows me to approach crypto content with the technical precision required by the sector, while adapting terminology and messaging to Brazilian Portuguese conventions and market usage.

Pricing
USD 1,000 for the full 8,800-word project. The fee includes translation into Brazilian Portuguese, technical and editorial review, terminology consistency, proofreading, and country- and language-specific localization.

Hi, we’re Bleu (bleu.builders), applying to own the Brazilian Portuguese localization.

Basic info

We’re a Brazilian team — native Brazilian Portuguese speakers, fluent in English, based in Brazil. Every string gets a second native review before sign-off, so the review layer comes built in.

Experience

Bleu is a product engineering team and a long-time CoW DAO partner. Through the CoW Grants Program we’ve shipped multiple projects over the years (our forum history). We work in the CoW ecosystem daily, so we already know the product surface behind these 1,500 strings — order types, surplus, partial fills, presign flows, order expiry.

We don’t come from the translation industry. For a DeFi UI we think that’s the right trade-off: the hard part of this job is terminology judgment, not grammar. “Slippage tolerance” or “partial fill” translated by someone who has never placed an order reads wrong to the users this localization is for. We’re glad to prove that in the sample task.

Terminology approach

Hybrid. Keep the English terms the Brazilian DeFi community actually uses (swap, gas, stake, token, etc), translate instructional and conversational copy fully, and use established Portuguese terms for CoW-specific concepts where the community already has them.

Price

1,000 USDC total for the ~8,800-word translation.

Availability and maintenance

Maintenance is included. Keeping the PT-BR locale current is a small, natural extension of work we already do in the CoW ecosystem — we’ll usually notice new strings because we follow the releases anyway.

Hello CoW DAO team,

My name is Arnau, and I would like to apply for the Spanish localization and ongoing maintenance of the CoW Swap UI. I realize the formal application window has just closed, but I would appreciate being considered if submissions are still being reviewed.

Basic information

  • Spanish: Native
  • Catalan: Native
  • English: C2 - Professional
  • Location: Andorra

I am also interested in owning the Catalan localization if CoW DAO adds it in a future phase.

Experience

I am a full-stack software engineer with over five years of experience building user-facing applications, including several years working directly in crypto and DeFi.

My experience includes developing and integrating DeFi products involving swaps, wallets, liquidity management, token vesting, AMMs, transaction states and other technical financial concepts. This gives me a strong understanding of the terminology and user flows involved in CoW Swap.

As both a developer and native speaker, I can ensure that translations are not only linguistically natural, but also technically accurate, concise and appropriate for UI components. I also understand the importance of string length, context, consistency and avoiding translations that negatively affect the interface.

Scope and pricing

My proposed price is 900 USDC for the complete Spanish translation or overhaul of approximately 8,800 words across roughly 1,500 UI strings, including Crowdin work, terminology consistency, review feedback and production-readiness adjustments.

Availability and maintenance

I am available to complete the initial work within the proposed schedule and can remain responsible for ongoing Spanish updates on a monthly basis or alongside product releases.

I am also available to complete the mandatory sample translation task.
